Throughout 2016 we’ll be immersing ourselves in the chamber music masterpieces of Schubert. (We needed another ‘Sch’ composer after the wonderful experience of Shostakovich 15 !) It is extraordinary to think of the amazing collection of great works that Schubert left for the world, after just 31 years of life. That he could write such profoundly exquisite music as the Cello Quintet, despite almost continuous poverty throughout his life and failing health, shows that great music can really come from the depths of human experience.
The main highlight of the year will undoubtedly be ‘Schubert at Syde’ as part of the Cheltenham International Music Festival. 1-2nd July http://www.cheltenhamfestivals.com/music/whats-on/2016/schubert-at-syde/ (SOLD OUT!) This will be an intense weekend including ‘Death and the Maiden’, ‘The Trout’, the Cello Quintet and the Octet. Artists will include Julian Bliss, Guy Johnson and Anna Tilbrook.
We also have a new recording out in March of Schubert’s Octet – with Emma Johnson and friends. This was recorded live at a performance at Turner Sims Hall in Southampton.
